Another news story about the treatment of male infertility which unfortunately becomes more “popular” nowadays. According to Spanish experts, the liquid made from the patient’s blood and introduced into the sperm will help to treat male infertility. They think that extract of the platelet-rich plasma from the blood, namely concentrated substances in the blood that help cells grow, can help sperm move faster and improve pregnancy rates in couples seeking treatment for infertility. About a third of infertile couples can benefit of this technology.
Blood is composed mainly of a clear yellow liquid, called plasma, along with erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets. Platelets play an important role in the process of blood coagulation and contain hundreds of proteins involved in wound healing. Due to the experts, the sperm is expected to be healthier and potentially more fertile, absorbing growth factors from platelet rich plasma.
Verifying this theory, the scientists will add the platelet rich plasma semen samples in order to improve its quality. To do this, they will take about 9 ml of blood from the vein in the patient’s arm which is then broken into individual components.
The researches with animals have already shown that platelet-rich plasma can improve sperm motility. The results of studies with humans will be published later.
